Boony gets the Ass, enter the Sheik of Tweak

Well the era of Boony being the VB Doll are gone. There won’t be a new Boony Doll this year but this doesn’t mean that there won’t be a doll this year. No, they have taken the man the advertised the Ashes series last year with a huge statue that did the rounds of London (See the series here).

Yes thats right, the Sheik of Tweak, Shane Warne is the man that will be the focus of this years One day Series. A doll of the great man will be available later in the year (I believe). If you want to follow the happenings, subscribe over at http://warnie.mollyzine.com where I will be documenting the summer of VB and of the Warnie Doll!

But don’t fear. I still hope to update this site with more Boony Videos and with sounds of the great man!

Wow. If this happens (he hasn’t actually made that announcement publicly, its just expected that he will) it will be a big loss for the Aussie team. When you add on the fact that McGrath is likely to also retire, we are going to be seeing new blood in the Aussie side.

SHANE WARNE, the most prolific wicket-taker in the history of Test cricket, will announce his retirement from international cricket today, effective after the Sydney Test. And his long-time fast-bowling partner, Glenn McGrath, will follow suit, marking the end of one of the most successful eras of Australian cricket

Well when I say new blood, you would expect that finally McGill will get his chance to come into the team and be the number 1 spinner. The fast bowling stocks have youngster coming through and it will be a chance for someone to step up.

Of late, someone always stepped up when you thought that we were going to be in trouble. Who’s to say it won’t happen again.

Is this real Warnie or Big Warnie?

I pointed this out earlier in the week, but Shane Warne wrote about it also:

Warne fired back at England coach Duncan Fletcher, claiming Fletcher was trying to prop up fragile egos with his provocative comments that the tourists had played the master leg-spinner “very, very well and positively” during their 277-run pounding in Brisbane.

This brings back memories of the 5th ad in the Big Warnie campaign, that has an Englishmen (I am not sure I am allowed to say POM any more, more of that later) complaining about the big Warnie being left where it was. After the catch cry, “It’s Definitely On!!!” They come back to the lead Aussie saying “Your just frighten of his Flipper”.

Seems that they are. Worst news is that Warne and his mentor Terry Jenner have been working on his drift. To me, this is the sign that Warnie is at his best when he has the ball drifting into the batsman and then spinning away. When that happens, he is unplayable.

This is a sad day in one respect with the final in the series of Ashes Ads. The good news is that tomorrow the cricket starts for real (and so will Boony and Beefy’s war of words and friendly banter). So here’s the last of the ads, kneel before the great man, Warnie!
