34 people voted on the First Poll and 82% of them correctly thought that the Aussies would win the First Test. 6% thought England would win, while 9% must of been praying for rain and thought that there was going to be a draw.

Lets do a Poll on the out come of the second Test:

Duncan Fletcher, the England coach, believes the way his batsmen countered Shane Warne at the Gabba will be a big boost for the remainder of the series. Warne went wicketless during nine overs in the first innings, but picked up four victims in the second, including Paul Collingwood and Andrew Flintoff.

So on the surface you say that the POMs handled Warne well and that was good news, right? But if Warne had only minor impact on this game, its a big worry that they got routed by 200+ runs. Warnie normally bowls well on the GABBA but wait till he gets tot he SCG and the Adelaide oval for there pitches and the MCG with him playing in front of 80,000+ fans a day in his home town!

And what about the fact that McGrath (I bet the English are glad he is over the hill as commentators have been mentioning (my tongue is firmly in the Cheek)) ran through them in the first innings and Stuart Clark takes wickets in both innings.

There is a long way to go and you would have to think that the English will get better from here (they couldn’t get much worst, could they?) and I am looking forward to the games ahead.

AUSTRALIAN captain Ricky Ponting will use the spectre of Edgbaston as a motivational tool for the second Ashes Test this week, and seek to banish those bitter 2005 memories forever. Less than an hour after recording a thunderous 277-run victory over England at the Gabba yesterday, Ponting called for perspective from teammates and supporters ahead of the Adelaide Test, which starts on Friday.

So we move to Adelaide and what could be a Turning iwicket. This brings selection problems for the Aussies. Shane Watson is still injured and won’t play. This means that the selectors have to decide if to take in McGill to partner with Warne. Do they drop Clark, rest McGrath or drop a batsman and play 5 bowlers?

I don’t like the idea of 5 bowlers especially with McGill coming in. If it was a better batter coming in (like say Brad Hogg), then maybe but not with McGill. Perhaps if McGrath doesn’t come up (he has a sore heel) they could bring in Jason Gillespe to play the allrounder spot! He has a test 200 to his name, why not?

Time will tell.

RICKY Ponting’s century at the Gabba won’t mask the facial scar incurred in the corresponding match at Lord’s last year. Lets hope he can continue this on today as if I remember correctly, in 2005 series each team had a habit of having its good days followed by a bad day somewhat. It would be great if the Aussies could continue on and bat England out of the game, while setting themselves up to bowl them out twice.

I followed the cricket on the CricInfo site and man that thing is the best. I found the site way before it became so big or popular but it is now a monster. I even download their desktop application which is pretty cool. It has news feeds of all their information as well as a way to add your own favorite RSS feeds (including this sites and the comments feed of this site (perfect for following what peoples Boony’s are saying).

They also had the following rap up of the days play with Ian Chappell. Very nice listen.

11:51am – Aussie fifty up off 10.2 overs. Langer 37 Hayden 13

12:35pm – Aussies 1/79. Hayden out for 21 Caught by Collingwood off of Flintoff. Langer reached his 50 and is now 53. Ponting has joined him at the crease and is no run from 3 balls.

12:58pm - Aussies are 1/106  - Langer 66 and Ponting 10 (after getting off the mark with a four and following it up with another). From what I can tell, Flintoff the pick of the bowlers and giving them a bit of trouble. (Beefy recons Boony drinks a lot, not sure that’s news!)

1:04pm Lunch. 1/109 – Langer 68 and Ponting 11. Not a bad start. Need to go on with it. Cricket has a funny way of momentum changing at major breaks!

2pm ish: Langer out for 82. Flintoff again. Ponting 28. Score 2/141

3:24pm: Martyn gawn! for 29. Caught Collingwood bowled Giles (Yes, you read it correctly). Ponting 55 and Mr Cricket (Hussey) joins him at the crease. 3/199 (Flintoff into the Attack as well)

Okay, at the end of the day the Aussies finished at 3/346. Ponting continues to fire with 137 and Mr Cricket, Mike Hussey retains his high average with 63. They will start off in the morning and lets hope that they continue on and don’t get complacent and throw away the good work of today.

• To listen to the cricket online, go visit the ABC Grandstand site where they have streaming of the cricket (not sure if this is restricted in some countries)
• Cricketon.tv seem to be offering video streaming but at a cost. If you just have to have the coverage, what are you going to do.
• There are too many blogs and online newspaper sites for me to mention. What are your favorites? Feel free to leave a comment for everyone to see what good sites are out there!
• BaggyGreen.com.au is the Australian Cricket website and is Linked in with the Cricinfo service which is just fantastic for following cricket. Definitely check it out.

PS. 10:17am here and I still have no Boony talk. What about others?

Here is a quick guide to set them up for the days cricket (assuming you have already initialized them):

1. Check that their both still working. Press their individual buttons and they should say something.
2. Find a good home for them. Some where you will hear them (they are louder and clearer then last year). Some where the kids won’t get at them, the wife won’t move them (hi honey) and the catch won’t try to eat them.
3. Make sure they have there infrared ports (oval black section) facing each other and they are no more then 15cm apart (the guide says 15cms)
4. Test they can talk. Hold down Beefy’s button for three seconds and he should beep once (if it is any more then once, go to the guide or go to the Boonanza FAQ). Next hold down Boony’s Button for 3 seconds and when you let go, they should do the “Aussie Aussie aussie” chant and you will know that they are talking.
5. At this point they should be set. That just leaves the task of subscribing to the daily updates via email of this site and bookmarking it so you can come back and let me know what Boony, Beefy and Boofy (Boony and Beefy chatting together) say!
